My first experience with Reiki was when I went to a holistic

practitioner for a massage but she advised me that since I had seen an

Osteopath earlier that day, a massage was not recommended. She

recommended Reiki instead because this therapy complements any

treatment and wouldn't upset any adjustments made by the osteopath.

She explained what it was and how it worked. I admit I was skeptical

but since I was already there, I agreed to try it. When I left her shop, I

had never felt more relaxed in my life. Any tension that I had was gone.

It set me on the path of enrolling in Level 1. That was in 2010 and I am

now a Reiki Master and Teacher in Western Reiki and a Level 2 in

Jikiden Reiki.

History: Reiki is a Japanese holistic light touch energy based modality

found by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922. Reiki means universal energy. It is the

balancing of one's energy. Since Eisnstein and the discovery of

quantum physics, it has been known that everything that exists has

energy. Science has now proved that an invisible energy flows through

 and connects all living things.

In 1961, the Russian scientist Semyon Kirlian developed a machine to

make this "unseen energy" visible by taking a photograph of it. Tests

were carried out on people before and after they received

a Reiki treatment and it was discovered that the frequency of the

energy was higher after the treatment. See Photo above.

How it Works: Life force energy flows throughout your body

systems which in turn enhances and accelerates body's natural

healing ability. Any blockage of energy due to either illness, stress or

injury can upset your natural body balance.

Reiki affects each individual differently but it always goes to the level

 (s) where it is needed.  There are 4 levels that are effected and they

are Mind, Body, Emotions, and Spirit.

Mind:  Reiki is relaxing and calms the mind activity. The saying "Can't

see the forest for the trees", can relate to too much activity caused by

worry, stress, etc. Reiki calms the mind and clients usually relax to the

point where they can see things more clearly, relating to changes and

decisions to be made in their life.

Body: Reiki helps strengthen the immune system by loosening blocked

energy and cleanses the body of toxins. It is used to treat migraines,

headaches, sinus problems, joint pain, stomach problems - Reiki

energy helps many conditions and always contributes towards healing.

Emotions: Reiki has a calming relaxing effect on the nervous system

and brings balance to uneven emotions. Emotional blockages can be

released to the point that there may be tears, laughter or relief. Any

suppressed emotions may be released and they need to be

acknowledged to set you on the path to healing. They need to be

recognized and released so your body can restore it's natural healing

 ability.

Spirit:  Reiki is not a religion and can be practiced and experienced by

anyone regardless of their religious orientation without conflict to their

faith. It connects you to your inner self, to a deeper level of awareness

 within your self.

What to expect in a session:  Reiki is not a massage. There is no

manipulation of the body's tissue and muscle. Clothing is not removed

and while I do the hands on procedure, the personal areas are treated

with hands approx 6 - 12 " above the body. Reiki is an energy balancing

therapy and it can be done thru clothing, casts, etc. It is a gentle

therapy and compliments any other treatments with no side effects.

You may feel heat, very relaxed, a cooling or a tingling sensation.

Who Can Benefit From Reiki Therapy: Anyone can receive Reiki. It is

a healing energy that supports the body's natural ability to heal itself.

This energy releases blockages, negativity, and toxins from the body. It

is a calming modality. It has been shown to ease the side effects of

chemo (stress, nausea, pain, anxiety, insomnia). It complements with

 conventional medical treatments.
